The overall aim of this module is to enhance students’ research skills and writing ability. This module will be divided into two major parts. The first part of this course aims to provide an introduction to general research methodologies frequently adopted in linguistic studies. Students will be provided assigned journal articles relevant to the topic of each week in order to have a deeper understanding on how successful research studies were conducted. The second part will be an introduction to the basic format of a research project/master dissertation. Students will learn how to write an outline, all the linguistic features of each chapter in a dissertation, and the key information that needs to be included. It is expected that students will acquire independent research skills and become a competent researcher after successfully finishing this module.
